The '70s and '80s Annual Disco Party is back bigger and better, with the organisers having made a few changes to the annual show to suit their fans.

The event will be held at the Grand Palm Resort and Hotel on June 7 from 6:30pm till 2am. According to the event promoter, Bame Motsomatshukudu, also famed as Bambi, the event will be celebrating its 15th anniversary. She explained that since its inception, the disco party has done well and is also growing tremendously. She stated that the event has won loyal patrons. Motsomatshukudu also explained that the event was meant to take the disco lovers down memory lane, especially the senior citizens who are mostly their biggest fans. “This is one event whose patrons are loyal. They simply love and embrace the '70s and '80s music, fashion and the disco life they used to enjoy back then. Even though this is my first year partnering with The Grand Palm, I have been attending it and I love it. It is for people who enjoy disco and American funk music. Our target audience is people born in the '70s and '80s. The younger generations who love the kind of music we will be playing are also allowed,” she said.

Motsomatshukudu said they have improved their services for this show to offer patrons a great experience. She said, unlike in the previous years, they will have multiple serving points (bars) where people will either buy with cash or swipe their drinks. She also said they would have a set up rest spots for revellers who want to go off the dance floor to catch a break during the event. Unlike many events, the '70s and '80s Annual Disco Party will not have VIP tickets. Motsomatshukudu said they have decided to have a P400 general ticket since they treat all their patrons as VIPs. To make it memorable, they have included two South African DJs who will be playing alongside local DJs.

Our food safety matters

We commend the GCC inspectors for their vigilance in uncovering serious hygiene violations at establishments like Pick 'n Pay (South Ring Mall), Bravo Restaurant (Main Mall), Chicken Twist (Bonnington), Spar (Main Mall Bakery and Butchery), Choppies Butchery, Pie Time, and Fours Bakery. Their decisive action which includes temporary closures, confiscation of unsafe food, and laying charges sends a powerful, necessary message: food safety is...
