---Football---

It’s On for the knockout rounds of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, with the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals bringing do-or-die football to your screens through the coming week.

Keep an eye out for star African players, such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi – the Moroccan wingback is hungry to help his team add to their success, having won the UEFA Champions League for the first time just a month ago.

“Personally, I feel great. I think the team feels great too. We have prepared very well and we are ready to try and reach our goal which is to go right to the very end of this competition,” said Hakimi.

SuperSport’s pre-match analysis, range of camera angles, post-match banter, talk shows, and world-class commentary means you will squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of your viewing from the CWC.

SuperSport is also Here for Her, pushing forward the development and promotion of Women’s sports. And this week brings the start of both the UEFA Women’s European Championship (Euros) and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), held in Switzerland and Morocco respectively.

In the European Championships, Spain are the tournament favourites and will get their campaign underway with a clash against Iberian neighbours Portugal on Thursday. Coach Montse Tome believes her squad has what it takes to add a first-ever Euros success to their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup triumph.

“The team has the ability to go all the way, I feel it, the team feels it, the players feel it. The goal is to go all the way, we compete to win,” said Tome.

In the WAFCON, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will look to successfully defend their title, and get their campaign underway on Monday evening with a clash against Ghana’s Black Queens in Oujda.

“We’re not approaching this as defending champions looking to repeat – we’re approaching it as a team that wants to evolve and reach a higher level,” said South Africa coach Desiree Ellis.

“Success can make teams complacent. We’ve been working on building depth across all positions, as versatility will be key. We will work on our tactical refinement in making sure we are defensively sound on our set pieces, and we will also be working on game management.

“Last time’s success earns you nothing this time. We respect our past, but we’re laser-focused on the future, sharpening every part of our game to ensure we arrive at WAFCON not just as champions, but as contenders who’ve grown.”

No room for perjury

It seems some government accounting officers, sworn to tell "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing else but the truth" before Almighty God, may have deliberately lied during the committee’s vital work. If proven, this is not merely unprofessional; it is perjury, a serious criminal offence and it strikes at the very heart of responsible government. The PAC’s role is fundamental. After each financial year, it painstakingly examines how public...
