TAFIC's stellar season in which they finished as runners-up to Gaborone United, got the reward it deserved after the club won six out of the nine individual accolades on offer at the FNB Premiership awards on Wednesday night.
Democratic Republic of Congo star forward, Jean Lwamba was the toast of the night after he won two awards, including the big prize of player of the season which carried a P100,000 prize money. In addition, Lwamba finished as the top goal scorer and was also included in the team of the season. The recognition won Lwamba P127,500 on the night. For scoring 15 goals during the season, Lwamba received P25,000 and he got a further P2,500 for his inclusion in the team of the season. Compatriot, Manda Nongo was named players' player of the season and went home with a total of P52,500 after he was also included in the team of the season.
Kazadi Gauthier received the young player of the season award, while goalkeeper, Tshepo Mooketsi walked away with the goalkeeper of the season gong. They each received P25,000. Further, TAFIC coach, Elias Chinyemba left the awards P50,000 richer after being named coach of the season to cap a glorious night for club. Lwamba, Nondo and captain, Kemoneetswe Mmangwedi were all included in the team of the season. Champions, GU were second best on the night but provided the bulk of players in the team of the season with five. Midfielder of the season, Lebogang Ditsele, Tatenda Gora who was named defender of the season, goalkeeper, Thabo Motswagole, defender Mothusi Johnson, and striker, Thatayaone Kgamanyane were named in the team of the season. Kgamanyane was joint winner for the golden boot. Jwaneng Galaxy, through Thero Setsile and Gilbert Baruti, and Mochudi Centre Chiefs in defender Thami Zulu were the only other sides to provide players to the team of the season. Matebele midfielder, Moses Shidolo was named supporters' player of the season.
